Israel Young Academy Chooses Seven New Members to Join its Ranks

Seven leading scholars in their respective fields were selected this month for membership in the Israel Young Academy, which operates with the support and assistance of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
Each of these scholars is prominent and distinguished in her or his respective field. They are not only pioneering researchers, but original thinkers who have shown initiative and contributed to society and the public good.
The following are the seven Israel Young Academy members selected:
Dr. Michal Bar-Asher Siegal, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev
Prof. Ayelet Baram-Tsabari, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology
Dr. Sefy Hendler, Tel-Aviv University
Prof. Yuval Feldman, Bar-Ilan University
Prof. Avi Zadok, Bar-Ilan University
Prof. Roy Kishony, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology
Dr. Yael Sternhell, Tel-Aviv University
The Israel Young Academy selects outstanding researchers from among all the academic disciplines in Israel, on the condition that they were below the age of 45 on the first of January in the year of their selection. Candidates must demonstrate proven and outstanding excellence in research, with a strong commitment to advancing scholarship and research in Israel. The Israel Young Academy strives for disciplinary and gender balance and for a fair representation of the population and of the academic community in Israel, while retaining the principle of excellence as the deciding factor. Israel Young Academy members serve one term of four years.
The goals of the IYA include advancing of the status of young academics in Israel; strengthening the the academic community’s relationships with policymakers and with the Israeli public; developing connections and cooperation among young researchers from different disciplines; and encouraging joint research projects with young researchers worldwide. Participation in the activity of the Israel Young Academy is voluntary and demands active communal and societal engagement.
